A person who contaminated candy with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys both nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and one adult became sick at the location in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer program which he operated.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the situation, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained items including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were found, and his stepson notified the police about his concerns.
She said the man proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the law enforcement once more.
She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
