Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.
An important official commented the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
